Will Morrisey Carry Water for Cardinal Health at Lily’s Place?

CHARLESTON, WV— Today, Attorney General Patrick Morrisey will be at Lily’s Place in Huntington to welcome First Lady Melania Trump. But who is Morrisey representing at this event; the people of West Virginia or Cardinal Health?

Cardinal Health criticized Lily’s Place and included the facility in a lawsuit earlier this year. Cardinal was strongly rebuked by the Huntington community for trying to throw blame at Lily’s Place and shift their responsibility in the opioid crisis to well-respected treatment centers like Lily’s Place (Herald-Dispatch, 8.11.2017).

Morrisey’s wife was, until very recently when her work came under fire, a paid lobbyist for Cardinal Health for 17 years (CBS, 6.2.2016) (Columbus Dispatch, 11.9.2016).

“West Virginians need to know who is Patrick Morrisey representing today; Cardinal Health, a significant donor and major client of his wife, or the babies that receive treatment at Lily’s Place,” said Belinda Biafore, Chairwoman of the West Virginia Democratic Party. “Cardinal Health has lined Morrisey’s pockets for years. While Pat is smiling for photos with the First Lady, he doesn’t want West Virginians, Lily’s Place, or the First Lady to think about the fact that his favorite drug company is trying to interfere with the great work being done by Lily’s Place.”
