Statement: Chair Belinda Biafore on the Passing of Amelia Boynton Robinson

Yesterday we lost a brave and courageous woman who fought for equality, justice and voting rights for most of her 104 years. Amelia Boynton Robinson was a true hero. She dedicated her life to fighting to ensure that every American gained the right to vote and that they kept that right. 50 years ago she marched in Selma fighting for what she believed in and there is no doubt that her actions on that day paved the way for the Voting Rights Act.

No words I can say will even begin to explain what she has done for the American people. We will honor her by fighting to ensure that everyone has the right to vote. We send our love, gratitude and well wishes to her family and friends during this difficult time.
