Statement: Chair Belinda Biafore on President Obama’s visit to WV

“Our beautiful home is terribly plagued by this tragic epidemic. We all have family members, friends, neighbors, coworkers, and acquaintances that are touched by addiction, and it’s sad that you can hardly find someone in our state that is not in some way affected by this tragedy.

Today the President came to our home and announced new steps to combat drug abuse and treatment plans for those seeking help.

West Virginia has the highest rate of overdose deaths in the U.S. and that is more than twice the national average.
At a time when he certainly knows the people of West Virginia have concerns and questions for him, he came to address this tragedy that is taking the lives of fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers, and friends.

Like I said before, this is not a partisan issue, it’s a West Virginia issue.”
