Governor Justice Dismantles Department of Education and the Arts & Creates New Department

Charleston, WV– On Thursday Governor Justice signed House Bill 4006, dismantling the Department of Education and the Arts. This move comes shortly after he fired Department secretary Gayle Manchin in a purely political maneuver.

Jim Justice fired Gayle Manchin and eliminated the Department of Education and the Arts to play political games when the students of West Virginia are the ones on the losing end.

Despite pushback from teachers, students, and Democratic legislators, Governor Justice dismantled the department only to create his own and call a special session. The new department is called the Department of Arts and Culture and History.

“With this move from Governor Justice there is no doubt that he is the biggest political hack in West Virginia,” said Brittni McGuire, WVDP spokeswoman. “Jim Justice is only out for Jim Justice, make no mistake about it. This whole process was one big political game looking for a problem that didn’t exist.”
