Democrats Celebrate Women’s Equality Day, WV GOP Stays Silent

Yesterday West Virginia Democrats joined the rest of the nation in celebrating Women’s Equality Day and not one word of celebration was heard from the West Virginia GOP.

Women’s Equality Day symbolizes the day that women gained the right to vote. This year’s anniversary marked 95 years of the 19th Amendment, granting women the right to vote.
Democrats and company celebrated at the Women’s Club in Charleston and our Chairwoman Belinda Biafore spoke out to not only women but all West Virginians in the Charleston Gazette in honor of the day.
“Yesterday we celebrated a day that symbolizes the rights that women have fought for,” Belinda Biafore, Chair stated. “We didn’t see or hear anything from the WV GOP and that’s incredibly upsetting.”
How does the WV GOP feel about a woman’s right to vote? Seeing as they didn’t speak out in celebration of the day or even post so much as a Tweet we have a pretty good idea.
Women have worked long and hard to gain and keep the right to vote and Democrats recognize and fight along side them to ensure everyone has equal rights and equal opportunity to be heard.
We celebrated for all that women have accomplished, but there is still a lot of work to be done and getting the cold shoulder from the GOP serves as a reminder of why.
